Valsad Collector Suspended Over Land Deal

Valsad District Collector and IAS officer Aayush Oak has been suspended by the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s government in Gujarat for his involvement in a land deal which caused huge financial losses to the government.

The Government said that when Oak was the collector of Surat before he was transferred to Valsad, his involvement in a land deal caused huge losses to the government because of his grave negligence.

The order passed by the government does not provide any more details about the reasons.

However, sources said that the state government had started an inquiry after a senior Congress leader written a letter to the government claiming that Oak, as Surat collector, was involved in a suspected land scam worth over 1,000 crore.

A prominent Gujarati newspaper had quoted the Congress leader’s complaint to the CM and claimed that a large piece of government land in Dumas area of Surat was transferred to a private person by Oak in violation of law. It was claimed that the government land is worth Rs 2,000 crore.
